Record group 81-63 consists of minutes of the meetings of the Michigan Dept. of Licensing and Regulation, Board of Nursing for the years 1919-1949. Contains typewritten proceedings of the Board, which met about once a month. Guidelines for determining whether nursing institutions should be granted accreditation were devised by the Board and varied discussions of these are presented in the minutes. Also included are discussions which indicate that the Board played a role in devising the curriculum of nursing schools; administered state licensing examinations for nurses; evaluated qualifications for initial and continuing certification of practitioners including assessing educational credentials, work experience and related training; and provided guidelines for reprimanding nurses who performed disservices to their profession.
